Marine iguanas are unique to the Galápagos. They’re the only species of lizard on the planet that forage in the ocean for food, and they dive deep beneath the waves to eat algae growing on rocks.
I saw thousands of these marine marvels during my trip to the Galápagos, and I grew to love the spiny monsters.
Others aren’t so keen on the lizards, though. Charles Darwin called them “imps of darkness” and “clumsy lizards” in his journals.
