Bhutan, Thimphu

In 1971 archery was declared the national sport of the kingdom of Bhutan.

Today, you’ll see people firing arrows everywhere you go.

Archery grounds are found in major towns such as Thimphu, and watching a professional tournament is exciting and fun.

But even better are the impromptu matches that take place in the countryside, where men in traditional Bhutanese dress fire arrows along an enormous, 145 metre-long range, each trying to hit a tiny target.
