USA, New York City, Sunshine Laundromat

Laundry is boring. But one New York City laundrette has a novel approach to breaking the tedium.

Sunshine Laundromat in Brooklyn features a series of classic pinball machines alongside its washers and driers.

Everyone is welcome. You don’t need to be washing your smalls to play the silver ball.

If you go through an innocuous door at the back of the laundrette, you’ll find a bar packed with more pinball madness.

While the secret bar is cool, I most enjoyed spending time in the main laundrette.

It was unusual to play pinball as the drums of washing machines spun relentlessly and the smell of detergent hung heavy in the air.

Aside from its pinball machines, the laundrette also features a collection of amateur – and deeply odd – dog portraits, which are painted by local eccentrics.
