Denmark, Copenhagen, Rundetaarn

This spiral staircase for horses is one of Denmark’s most famous tourist attractions.

The Rundetaarn or Rundetårn (Round Tower) is a 17th-century tower located in central Copenhagen.

The tower was built as an astronomical observatory, and is famous for its equestrian staircase – a spiralling corridor leading to a platform at the top of the tower, where you get excellent views over Copenhagen.

This oddball ramp allowed horses and carriages to reach the tower’s library, and to transport heavy and sensitive instruments to the observatory.
