China, Shanghai, Shanghai Museum of Public Security

Yup, that’s a pair of scissors embedded in a human skull.

This gruesome display is found in the Shanghai Museum of Public Security, which showcases the evolution of Shanghai’s police departments since 1854.

The museum has over 1,000 exhibits, but the best are found on the ‘Criminal Investigation’ floor.

Here you can see graphic photographs of brutal murder scenes, along with an excellent display of police weapons – ranging from antique knives and knuckle dusters to modern machine guns.

But what stuck with me most was this macabre relic from a murder scene, where the unfortunate victim had been stabbed in the back of their head with a pair of heavy duty scissors.
