Fushimi Inari is the most famous Shinto shrine in southern Kyoto, Japan.
The shrine is renowned for its orange torii gates, thousands of which straddle a network of trails that crisscross Mount Inari.
These trails take visitors through the forest of the sacred mountain, which stands an impressive 233 metres tall.
Fushimi Inari is dedicated to Inari, the Shinto god of rice.
Foxes are thought to be Inari’s messengers, and you’ll see hundreds of fox statues as you explore the mountain trails.
