Argentinia, Beagle Channel, Les Eclaireurs Lighthouse

Les Eclaireurs Lighthouse in the Beagle Channel, Tierra del Fuego, southern Argentina.

The lighthouse stands on one of five Les Eclaireurs islands, around 9km east of Ushuaia. ‘Les Éclaireurs’ translates as ‘the Scouts’.

The lighthouse is still in operation, but is remote-controlled, uninhabited and not open to the public.

The lighthouse is a popular tourist attraction, and is nicknamed ‘the Lighthouse at the End of the World’ (Faro del fin del mundo).

If you look carefully, you’ll see dozens of rock shags – also known as Magellanic cormorants – roosting on the island.
