Looking across the surreal frozen landscape of Argentina’s most famous glacier, Perito Moreno.
I spent a day trudging across Perito Moreno.
It was like walking on an alien planet, and I’ll never forget the insistent ‘crunch, crunch, crunch’ of my spiked shoes on the ice.
Our trek began at the tip of Perito Moreno, where we saw enormous blocks of ice breaking off the glacier and falling into the water below.
An unsettling ‘boom!’ echoed across the gorge every time a block of ice fell.
It sounded like bombs exploding – not what you want to hear when you’re nervous about your first trek across an icy wasteland.
