A golden bodhisattva stands before the enormous Great Buddha Dordenma statue in Bhutan, just outside the city of Thimphu.
Great Buddha Dordenma is one of the largest Buddha statues in the world, and stands around 52 metres tall.
Inside the idol are over 100,000 smaller Buddha statues, each of which, like the Great Buddha Dordenma itself, are made of bronze and gilded in gold.
The statue cost over $100 million. Construction began in 2006 and was planned to finish in October 2010, but didn’t conclude until September 2015.
The statue is an incredible sight, and the mountainside complex also gives visitors a dramatic view over the city of Thimphu.
