Bhutan, Thimphu, Motithang Takin Preserve

This beautiful beast is a Takin, the national animal of Himalayan mountain kingdom, Bhutan.

The takin is also called cattle chamois or gnu goat, and is only found in the eastern Himalayas.
I snapped this handsome chap in Motithang Takin Preserve, Thimphu.

The takin was declared the national animal of Bhutan on 25 November 2005, and was said to be created by Lama Drukpa Kunley, who is credited with introducing Buddhism to Bhutan.
