Bolivia, Árbol de Piedra (stone tree)

The Árbol de Piedra (stone tree) is an isolated rock formation in Bolivia’s Eduardo Avaroa Andean Fauna National Reserve.

The rock looks like it was lifted from a Salvador Dalí painting, and was created when soft sandstone was eroded by centuries of harsh desert winds.

I visited the Árbol de Piedra as part of an epic tour that set off from the city of Uyuni, crossed high through the mountains, and ended up at the beautiful Salar de Uyuni salt flats.

Bolivia boasts some of the most dramatic landscapes and natural wonders in South America, and I hope my travels take me back there one day.
