Bolivia, Valle de Rocas, Eagle Rock

Eagle Rock in the Valle de Rocas (Valley of Rocks) near Uyuni in Bolivia.

I passed through the Valle de Rocas during an epic tour that set off from the city of Uyuni, crossed high through the mountains, and ended up at the beautiful Salar de Uyuni salt flats.

This rock, which looks like a majestic bird of prey spreading its wings, was created by centuries of wind erosion.

Throughout the Valle de Rocas you’ll see unusual rock formations, some formed by wind erosion, others by volcanic activity.

The weirdest rocks have all been given nicknames, including Copa del Mundo (World Cup trophy) and El Camel (the camel). Bolivia boasts some of the most dramatic landscapes and natural wonders in South America, and I hope my travels take me back there one day.
