
I once spent six weeks travelling in South America.
When I crossed the border from Peru to Bolivia, this sign painted on the wall of a public toilet was the first thing I saw.
The sign left me full of questions.
Why are Bolivians so keen for me to visit the loo?
Why is Chilean cartoon hero, Condorito, steering tourists towards the local facilities?
Why is he wearing a trench coat?
What is that puff of smoke coming from his trousers…?
Of course, I’ve never found any answers to any of my questions.
The more time passes, the stranger this sign seems.
Bolivia is a wonderful country, with incredible landscapes, fascinating customs and interesting people.
