A statue of a guardian lion watches over a tranquil lake in Angkor Wat, Cambodia.
The Angkor Wat temple complex is one of the largest religious monuments in the world, and was originally constructed for the Khmer Empire as a Hindu temple dedicated to the god Vishnu.
However, it gradually transformed into a Buddhist temple towards the end of the 12th century.
This lion statue is one of Angkor Wat’s most famous sights, and has appeared on the cover of several notable guide books.
I was lucky to find a break in the crowds, and my wife took a photo of me standing beside the lion, looking out over the serene lake.
It’s one of the few photos of myself that I actually like, and you can see it in the ‘about me’ section of my blog.
