The Shanghai Marriage Market is a weekly event for those unlucky in love.
Set in the People’s Park in People’s Square, the weekend market sees concerned parents and grandparents setting up umbrellas, to which they attach details of their unmarried offspring.
Sadly, I can’t read Chinese, so all I know about this bachelor or spinster is that they were born in 1989, and that they’re 160cm tall.
As you walk through the park you’ll hear animated conversations and heated discussions as marriage deals are brokered, and proud family members loudly sell the benefits of the brides and grooms up for grabs.
It’s a fascinating spectacle. But be careful when taking photos as some parents don’t like their adverts being snapped by tourists.
