The Monument to the Equator in Ecuador’s Ciudad Mitad del Mundo supposedly straddles the centre of the Earth.
But it’s a little off target.
The data used when building the monument was flawed, and the actual equator is some 240 metres north.
Despite this gaff, Ciudad Mitad del Mundo is still a fun place to visit, and on weekends you can catch local music performances and check out handicraft stalls.
Another tourist attraction – Intinan Museum – has been built nearby on the true equator.
