Say hello to Super Diego – one of the most virile beasts in the Galápagos Islands, and father of over 1,000 Española Island giant tortoises.
Super Diego spent his younger years in San Diego Zoo, but in the 1960s was shipped back to the Galapagos as only 14 Española Island giant tortoises were left in the wild.
Over subsequent decades Super Diego became the biggest and most dominant tortoise in the captive breeding program. He was also the most prolific breeder.
I’m sure you’ll agree that Super Diego is a handsome chap.
One thing’s for sure – he’s certainly a ladies’ man!
