Lipstick kisses left by visitors to Oscar Wilde’s tomb in Père Lachaise Cemetery, Paris.
Over the years thousands of visitors have kissed Wilde’s tomb after applying lipstick, leaving a smooch print.
Sadly, cleaning operations to remove the lipstick grease caused the stone to become more porous.
The tomb became harder and harder to clean, and in 2011 a glass barrier was erected to make the monument kiss-proof.
But the barrier only covers the lower half of the tomb, and plenty of visitors still leave a kiss for Oscar.
As Ireland’s Office of Public Works considers the tomb to be an Irish monument overseas, it pays for all the cleaning and installed the passion-killing barrier.
