This tower in Hong Kong’s busy Quarry Bay district – nicknamed the Monster Building by locals – is the city’s most remarkable residential block.
The building is a complex of five connecting blocks: Oceanic Mansion, Fook Cheong Building, Montane Mansion, Yick Cheong Building and Yick Fat Building.
The blocks were built during a population boom in the 1960s, and were designed to give Hong Kong’s poorest citizens a roof over their head.
Because of its striking symmetry and sizzling colours, the Monster Building has become a favorite spot for urban explorers.
It’s even appeared in a variety of blockbuster movies, including Ghost in the Shell and Transformers.
Visiting the complex is fun. But you need to be patient to snap a decent shot as you’ll be jostling with dozens of aggressive Instagrammers, all battling for the perfect selfie.
