Around 20 miles from Yogyakarta, Merapi was responsible for dozens of casualties and deaths during dramatic eruptions in 1994 and 2010.
The museum displays items that ‘survived’ previous eruptions – including dented kitchenware, the bones of livestock and a smashed motorcycle.
