Japan, Osaka, Dōtonbori

The famous lights at Ebisu Bridge in Dōtonbori, Osaka, shimmering in the Dōtonbori Canal.

Dōtonbori is a neon wonderland, but the area’s most famous lights depict the Glico Man.

Originally installed in 1935, the sign that shows a giant athlete on a blue track – his arms in the air – is an advertisement for Glico candy.

The sign has been tweaked several times to celebrate events such as the World Cup, and to show support for Osaka’s baseball team, Hanshin Tigers.
