Gotokuji temple in Tokyo’s quiet Setagaya Ward is famous for its huge collection of lucky cats (maneki neko).

I was lucky to visit the temple during an unexpected flurry of blizzards in January 2018, and saw the cats half-buried in a layer of crisp snow.
The temple is worth visiting in any weather, and is peaceful, beautiful and a welcome break from the bustling city centre.
