One of my favourite places in Tokyo is the artificial island Odaiba in Tokyo Bay.
But while the area is brilliant for shopping, restaurants and the glorious National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation – where you can see an Asimo robot in action – what I love most is the Gundam.
Outside the DiverCity Tokyo Plaza shopping centre stands a ‘life-size’ Gundam mobile suit from the Japanese anime series, which towers almost 20 metres above visitors.
The RX-0 Unicorn replica is the second Gundam to stand in this hallowed spot, and this latest warrior transforms into its striking battle form several times a day, much to the delight of crowds that cluster around its enormous feet.
Inside DiverCity is Gundam Base, an enormous store dedicated to the Gundam models that are even more popular than the TV series.
In my many visits to Tokyo, I’ve spent a small fortune in this incredible shop!
