Malaysia, Sarawak, Bako National Park

A gecko watches me as I experiment with a macro lens in Bako National Park in Sarawak (Borneo), Malaysia.

Bako is home to a huge variety of wild animals – all the way from this tiny gecko to plump proboscis monkeys.

Although the park’s chalets are pretty crummy, you can stay in Bako overnight and take part in shadowy jungle tours to see noctural animals on the prowl.

Staying overnight also gives you a chance to see the park come to life as the sun rises.

If you’re lucky, you’ll see silvered leaf monkeys on the beach before breakfast.
