A flapping tube man, designed to look like a cathedral candle, advertises religious offerings in the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe, Mexico City.
The Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe is a Roman Catholic church, basilica, and national shrine in the north of the city.
Although the Basilica has loads of souvenir shops and often feels like a religious theme park, I was surprised to see this fluttering fella flogging religious knickknacks.
I love tube men and their crazy flailing arms. But others aren’t so keen.
Tube men have been banned in the Texas city of Houston since 2010, as they’re said to “contribute to urban visual clutter and blight, and adversely affect the aesthetic environment and the safety and quality of life for the community and the citizens of the city”.
Now that’s harsh!
