If you’re in Mexico and can’t make it to Guanajuato to visit the gruesome Museo de las Momias, the mummies on display at the Museo de El Carmen in San Ángel, Mexico City, are just as eerie.
The complex where the bodies are displayed is a former monastery school, and also hosts an impressive collection of Colonial religious art.
But if you have the guts to visit the shadowy crypt you’ll encounter 12 bodies of former parishioners, all of which have been naturally mummified.
Unlike the Museo de las Momias there’s no restriction on taking photos, and on a quiet day you’re likely to be the only visitor in this chilling cellar.
