This absurd fountain in eastern Amsterdam shows a man staring into the eyes of a sheep.
Jets of water shoot from the man’s eyes, directly into the face of the nonplussed ruminant.
‘Man en Schapp’ (Man and Sheep) is by Dutch artist Merijn Bolink, and is in a pond between Flevoparkweg, the Zeeburgerdijk and the Zuiderzeeweg.
Bolink says he was inspired by the impossibility of real contact between humans and animals.
The fountain isn’t hard to find, but the pond is surrounded by tall reeds.
It was difficult to get a decent photo, but hopefully I‘ll go back one day when the weeds are trimmed.
