A magnificent mandrill watches me taking photos at Singapore Zoo.
Mandrills, the world’s largest monkey, are strikingly coloured – with a red stripe down the middle of their snout, protruding blue ridges on the sides, and a yellow beard with white tufts.
Although I don’t agree with caging wild animals, Singapore Zoo is the best I’ve ever visited as it uses naturalistic ‘open’ enclosures, with hidden barriers, moats and glass between the animals and visitors.
I’d love to see a mandrill in the wild. But I still feel privileged to have been so close to this wonder of nature in one of Singapore’s finest tourist attractions.
