Beautifully painted and sculpted rooftops in Deoksugung, a walled compound of palaces in Seoul, South Korea.
The compound was home to Korea’s royal family during the Joseon monarchy, up until the annexation of Korea by Japan in 1910.
It’s one of five grand palaces built by the Joseon dynasty, and the buildings are of wildly varying styles.
What I enjoyed most when exploring Deoksugung were the elaborate palace roofs, where artists used ornate paintwork and retina-sizzling colours to create heavenly designs.
