The beautiful Gyeongbokgung in Seoul, South Korea.

Gyeongbokgung, also known as Gyeongbokgung Palace or Gyeongbok Palace, was built in 1385 as the main royal palace of the Joseon dynasty.

Gyeongbokgung served as the main Joseon palace until the building was destroyed by fire during the Imjin War (1592 to 1598), and was abandoned for over 200 years.

In the 19th century, all of the palace’s 7,700 rooms were restored under the leadership of Prince Regent Heungseon, during the reign of King Gojong.

In the early 20th century, much of the palace was again destroyed by Japanese invaders.

Since then the walled palace complex has been gradually being restored to its original glory.

Today, the palace is regarded as the most beautiful and grandest of all Korea’s palaces, and also houses the National Palace Museum of Korea and the National Folk Museum.
